Police identify Rockdale man found dead in his driveway

ROCKDALE – A man found dead in his driveway in the 900 block of Parkview Avenue in Rockdale on Thursday has been identified.

William Dwyer, 67, lived at the adjacent house by himself and was found in the driveway after being there for several hours, according to Rockdale Police Chief Robert Dykstra. The man was previously reported to be 75 years old.

A preliminary autopsy Friday showed no indication of a struggle, but found injuries indicating he might have fallen. Investigators ruled foul play or homicide.

The Will County Major Crimes Task Force was called in to examine evidence at the scene.

Dkystra said that after investigators spoke with neighbors, they were able to confirm Dwyer had left a nearby tavern and he is presumed to have fallen outside. He added the weather might have been a contributing factor in Dwyer's death because investigators believe his body was outside for several hours between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

A final determination of the cause of death will be made after complete police, autopsy, toxicology reports, which usually take six to eight weeks.
