Elwood meeting will continue at school district building

More than 600 residents of Elwood listen to representatives of Compass Business Park on Tuesday during a public comment hearing for a proposal to annex 851 acres for the development of NorthPoint Business Park in Elwood.
More than 600 residents of Elwood listen to representatives of Compass Business Park on Tuesday during a public comment hearing for a proposal to annex 851 acres for the development of NorthPoint Business Park in Elwood.

The Elwood Village Planning and Zoning Commission meeting set to continue on Jan. 11 will be at a different site.

The continued public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Elwood Community Consolidated School District Building at 409 N. Chicago Ave. in Elwood.

During the initial meeting, NorthPoint Development gave a presentation on its proposed 2,000-plus-acre industrial park in Elwood and Jackson Township.

Afterward, public comment was held for those of the more than 700 members of the public who attended. That continued until about 11 p.m., when organizers decided to adjourn until Jan. 11.

The village has a population of about 2,300, according to data on the village’s website.

Attendees gathered to listen to Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Greg Hickey and representatives from NorthPoint and comment on the Missouri-based company’s Compass Business Park, which would require rezoning 851 acres of land. NorthPoint also wants Elwood to annex 675 acres of that land for the project.
