MORRIS –The Morris Theatre Guild, Inc. has begun rehearsals and is taking reservations for its winter production of Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey's comedy/drama, "Bill W. and Dr. Bob."
Based on the lives of two real people, "Bill W. and Dr. Bob" tells the true story of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous.
When the stock market crashes in 1929, Bill W. becomes a hopeless drunk, and his wife, Lois, is unable to get him to stop. Meanwhile, Dr. Bob Smith, a surgeon, drinks in secret. He himself is an agnostic, but his wife, Anne, joins the Oxford Group, a real-life group of Christians.
Bill W. and Dr. Bob meet accidentally and a series of completely chance incidents eventually lead to the creation of AA.
The comedy/drama's very talented cast is directed by Jim Welch of Morris and assistant directed by Tim Atchison of Plainfield.
The cast includes both veteran and new guild members, including Joe Baima of Marseilles, Ashley Parker of Mazon, Judy Miller of Morris, and Karianne Dugard, Bill Griffith, and Stephan Spellman, all of Plainfield.
Bill W. and Dr. Bob opens on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the Morris Theatre Guild, Inc.
