On Saturday, members of St. John Kochurov in New Lenox, which is the south chapel of St. Luke The Evangelist Orthodox Church in Palos Hills, blessed the waters of Hickory Creek in honor of theophany. Theophany, or epiphany, means “manifestation.” Christian churches of the east commemorate Jesus’ baptism on this day. Christian churches of the west celebrate the Magi’s adoration of Jesus. In an email, the Rev. Andrew Harrison said that despite the cold, “it was a most beautiful day and one of the best theophanies in my life. We saw ducks and a blue heron.”
