Dead driver from Wednesday crash identified

A motorist who died after rolling his BMW sport utility vehicle into an Interstate 55 ditch Wednesday morning has been identified.

Wayne LaBotz, 64, of Romeoville was pronounced dead at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Amita Bolingbrook Hospital emergency room.

About a half hour earlier, LaBotz was driving a 2016 BMW SUV north in the middle lane of I-55 when, for unknown reasons, he veered off the road near mile marker 265 in Bolingbrook and rolled over into the right ditch, according to the Illinois State Police.

The state police are reconstructing the crash, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy was performed Thursday but LaBotz's cause of death remains pending, the coroner's office said.
