ROSEMONT – A Joliet semitrailer driver died in a crash that involved two other semitrailers and a van, police said.
Renee A. Hodorowicz, 53, of Joliet had succumbed to injuries suffered in the multi-vehicle crash 8:12 p.m. Monday, the Illinois State Police said in a news release. Hodorowicz was the driver of a 2009 International semitrailer involved in the crash.
Two other drivers suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, state police said.
A preliminary investigation showed Hodorowicz and three other drivers were traveling south on Interstate 294 in Rosemont when Hodorowicz reportedly failed to reduce the speed of her semitrailer and rear-ended the 64-year-old male driver of a 2014 Peterbilt semitrailer, police said.
The force of the impact created a chain-reaction crash, police said, causing the driver of the Peterbilt semitrailer to rear-end the 2004 Chevrolet Venture van being driven by a 54-year-old man. That driver in turn reportedly rear-ended a 2016 Freightliner semitrailer driven by a 58-year-old man.
Hodorowicz and the driver of the Peterbilt semitrailer were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, while the driver of the Freightliner semitrailer was taken to Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, state police said.
The drivers of the Peterbilt and Freightliner semitrailer suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The crash is being investigated by state police.
