Prep wrestling: Providence has five champs, wins regional title

BRADLEY – Providence Catholic’s wrestling team will give retiring coach Keith Healy one more chance at getting back to state after it won the Class 3A Bradley Regional with 197 points. Lincoln-Way East edged Lincoln-Way West, 171-170½, for second. Leading the Celtics were champions Jacob Lindsey (113 pounds), Josh Ramos (145), Kevin Countryman (152), Cole Smith (160) and Logan Anderson (220). Placing second was Dominick Ambrose (138) while Nick Matthias (106), Ross Heimlich (120) and Alonso Serrano (126) took third.

Leading the Griffins were champions Nick Mihajlovich (182) and John Christensen (195), second-place finishers Gus Christensen (152), Chris Wilder (170) and Devin O’Rourke (285) and third-place Paul Malito (132), Noah Alsguson (160) and Jaden Hacha (220).

The Warriors were led by champion Kyle Quinn (170), runners-up Garrett Geigner (120), Payton Geigner (126), Nate Dluzak (132), Jacob Cronk (160), Jordan Telez (195) and Jimmie Olds (220) and by Brock Pfeifer (152) and Nick Skentzos (285), who were third. Lincoln-Way Central’s Mason Sargent (182) also took third.

3A United Twp. Regional: Minooka won its first regional title since 2013 by beating Moline, 200-136½, while Plainfield South (124) was fourth. Winning titles for the Indians were Austin Markee (120), Zach McDowell (126) and Adam McDowell (138) while Jack McClimon (106), Alec Dufour (170), Connor Colbert (182), Connor Briley (220) and Derek Wentworth (220) all took second while Dominic Ruettiger (132), Noah Boles (145), Jake Ryan (152) and Drew Gutknecht (195) were third. The Cougars got titles from Enzo Silva (113) and Jake Kendall (152), a second from Erik Santiago (160) and thirds from Gabe Hinkle (106), Andrew Cervantes (126), Noah Bickett (138) and Dan Caldwell (170).

1A Coal City Regional: The Coalers beat Prairie Central, 205½-181½, for first place. Coal City was led by champions Evan Rivera (106), Alex Friddle (120), Ryan Wasielewski (145) and Daniel Jezik (160), second-place finishers Lane Kutemeier (132), Trevor McIntire (138), TJ Jezik (152) and by Connor Huston (113) and Brendan Nevin (195), who took third. Leading Reed-Custer were runners-up Gabe Nagel (145), Ryan Shepherd (160) and Shane Milburn (182) while Logan Zacharias (285) took third. Pacing Peotone were winners Paul Keane (113) and Chandler Gartner (182) and third-place finishers Nathan Battiato (152) and Maxwell Lonard (170). Wilmington was led by runner-up Jack Narine (106) and by third-place Matt Nutt (138).

2A Sandwich Regional: Morris was led by champions Jacob Barkley (160), Cody Baldridge (182) and Tyler Petty (285) while Bryce Claypool (126), Zach Sater (132), Drayden McKerrow (195) and R.J. Roderick (220) took third. Joliet Catholic was led by winners Dean Hamiti (106) and Jack Finnegan (113) while Cameron Turner (145) and Anthony Kasper (152) placed third.

2A Lemont Regional: St. Rita edged the hosts, 191-181, for the title. The Indians were led by champions Paul McGrath (113), Drew Nash (126), Grant LaDuke (132) and Alex Oruna (182), second-place finishers Tommy Collins (160) and Apollo Gothard (195) and also by Kyle Schickel (120), Kyle Zator (138) and Ryan Dickson (152), who all placed third.

1A Aurora Central Regional: Second-place Seneca was led by champion Mason Dooley (170), second-place finishers Ben Virgo (113), Brett Yegge (120), Zane Comrie (132), Jackson Beene (145) and Nathan Elliott (195) and also by Wilson Widman (106), Joey Hatz (152), Levi Clark (182) and Jacob Hampton (285), who all took third.

3A Lyons Twp. Regional: Bolingbrook got thirds from John McDermott (126), Kristian Bielski (152) and Aaron Arechar (160).
