The Atlanta Braves won their arbitration case Saturday against right-handed starting pitcher, Mike Foltynewicz. However, the difference between losing and winning the case was reported to be only $100,000, the smallest in any arbitration case this year, as Foltynewicz had asked for $2.3 million when the two sides traded figures on Jan. 12. He made $544,000 in 2017.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the same day as the hearing, Foltynewicz, a Minooka graduate, became a father as his wife, Brittany, gave birth to their son, Michael Jett Foltynewicz.
Foltynewicz, 26, went 10-13 with a 4.79 ERA in 29 games (28 starts) last season before a cut finger on Sept. 14 wound up ending his season. He went 9-1 with a 3.56 ERA in 14 starts from May 12 through July 25 – the best stretch in his career – but was 1-8 with a 7.27 ERA in his last nine starts.
