Police: Joliet man arrested for stealing memory card from Walmart

JOLIET – A Joliet man was arrested and jailed after he allegedly stole a memory card from a Joliet Walmart, police said.

Shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, Arturo Alvear, 42, of the 300 block of Willow Avenue in Joliet was charged with retail theft in connection with the incident.

Alvear reportedly was spotted by employees in the electronics aisle of the 2424 W. Jefferson St. Walmart while holding an item in his hand, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said.

When Alvear went to another aisle of the store, he allegedly no longer had that item in his hand as he had placed it in his pocket, Gregory said.

Alvear then went to the cash register and paid for other items that he had picked up along the way, Gregory said.

After he walked past the last point of sale, he was stopped and recovered from him was an AgfaPhoto memory card, Gregory said.

AgfaPhoto memory cards cost upward of $30, according to Amazon.com.

Gregory said Alvear was booked into the Will County jail because of his criminal history.

In Will County, Alvear has received various traffic citations between 2004 and 2017, according to court records.
