JOLIET – A Joliet man allegedly high on an unknown substance burst into his ex-wife’s apartment and punched her several times, police said.

About 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Joliet police officers responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Buell Avenue that reportedly turned out to be a domestic battery incident, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.

Barry A. Cole, 54, of the 100 block of Circle Drive, arrived at the apartment of his 49-year-old ex-wife, Gregory said. Cole allegedly broke through the wooden entry door and punched his ex-wife several times in her face and body.

The ex-wife said Cole was high on an unknown drug, Gregory said. She refused medical treatment.

Cole was arrested and charged with home invasion causing injury, residential burglary, criminal trespass to a residence, domestic battery, theft and criminal damage to property. He was booked into the Will County jail.

Cole’s bond was set at $1 million. He remained in custody Thursday evening.
