JOLIET – A Park Forest teenager was caught by Joliet police officers while she was allegedly driving around town in a stolen 2014 Hyundai Azera car, police said.
At about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Joliet police officers were in the area of Ruby and Bluff streets when they stopped the driver of a 2014 Hyundai Azera for an alleged red light violation that occurred on Ruby and Broadway streets, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.
Officers were reportedly informed by police dispatch that the car was stolen out of Schiller Park, roughly 48 miles away from Joliet.
The alleged sole occupant of the car was Makayla M. Hillard, 18, of the 200 block of Juniper Street in Park Forest, Gregory said. He said Hillard reportedly had no valid driver’s license.
Hillard was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft, criminal trespass to a vehicle, disregarding a traffic control device and driving with no license issued.
Hillard was booked into Will County jail. She was scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing Thursday afternoon.
