JOLIET – A Joliet man allegedly made sexual overtures to a 12-year-old girl and exposed himself to her and several other female children, police said.

About 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Demetrious M. Houston, 35, of the 300 block of North Bluff Street entered an apartment on Western Avenue in Joliet and reportedly encountered a 12-year-old girl who was on her cellphone speaking to her mother, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email. The rear door to the apartment was not secured, Gregory said.

Houston and the girl had a brief conversation that was reportedly overheard by the mother. Houston allegedly made several sexual requests from the girl before he exposed himself to her and a 6-year-old girl, a 3-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl, Gregory said.

As the mother arrived at the apartment, Houston allegedly fled the scene, taking the 12-year-old girl’s cellphone with him.

The mother and a 39-year-old male witness followed him to another apartment building on Western Avenue and notified the police.

Police officers arrived and reportedly found Houston in the apartment. He was later positively identified by the victims, Gregory said.

Houston was arrested and charged with residential burglary, indecent solicitation and exposing himself to children under 13. He was booked into the Will County jail.
