Fourth-grade students in the S.T.A.R. Leadership Club and third- and fourth-grade students in the ACE program at Troy Cronin Elementary School recently donated $602 to the nonprofit charity Shorewood HUGS. The students held a snack sale at the school to raise the money.
S.T.A.R. stands for Service, Teamwork, Achievement and Recognition. This is the club’s first year.
Shorewood Hugs President Jackie O’Hara visited the school to accept the donation and spoke to the students about leadership and about what Shorewood Hugs provides to the community, said S.T.A.R. sponsor Josefa Lopez, a Cronin social worker.
S.T.A.R.’s other sponsor is Cronin fourth-grade teacher Emily Semplinski.
Shorewood HUGS is a nonprofit women’s organization that works to make positive impacts in the lives of those in the community and surrounding communities by raising funds to fulfill wishes for those in need.
