JOLIET – Joliet Route 66 Stadium will get some new flooring in addition to artificial turf.
The city council this week approved $47,000 in new carpeting and flooring for several sections of Joliet Route 66 Stadium. City officials said it’s the first new flooring since the stadium opened in 2002.
New flooring will be installed in a lobby and food and beverage area, third floor common areas and press box, the ticket office and in an audio-visual room.
The city also had considered installing new carpeting in the luxury suites. However, the Slammers asked that the suite carpeting be installed in 2019, which saves about $20,000 on the flooring contract.
The contract was awarded to Performance Floors.
Installation is scheduled to be completed before the Slammers’ home opener on May 15.
