Toys R Us cutting 180 jobs at Joliet warehouse

The Toys "R" Us distribution center in Joliet is being shut down.
The Toys "R" Us distribution center in Joliet is being shut down.

JOLIET – Toys R Us will lay off 180 workers at its Joliet warehouse and regional office.

The company listed the number of layoffs in a notice to the state required by law.

Toys R Us is in bankruptcy and told employees last month that it will shut stores in the U.S.

The company has both a store in Joliet and the distribution center located at 2695 Plainfield Road. The warehouse is near the Louis Joliet Mall. The Toys R Us store is in the same area.

The company’s March notice under the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act does not list layoffs because of store closings.

The warehouse and office layoffs will be completed by May 14, according to the WARN notice. They include 136 layoffs in the distribution center and 44 in the regional office.

The facility will be permanently closed, according to the notice. Toys R Us has not returned phone calls and emails seeking comment about the Joliet operations.
