Part of Route 53 was closed Monday afternoon in Romeoville for an investigation into a major crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

Michael B. Loehman, 20, of Romeoville, was struck by a semi-trailer in the 600 block of North Route 53, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office. He was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m.

The Romeoville Police Department is handling an investigation into the crash’s cause.

An alert from the village about a “major crash” Monday afternoon did not provide an estimated time the road would reopen, but another alert was sent about 8 p.m. that said the crash had been cleared and Route 53 was open. Police and fire officials could not be reached for comment.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. The final cause and manner of death will be determined following complete police, autopsy and toxicological reports.

Funeral home selection for Loehman was pending Monday night.
