Longtime Will County resident Bryan Nooner had an idea as he and his wife struggled with outdoor decorations before a winter party in 2011.
"She said, 'You can fix everything else; can’t you fix this?'" Nooner said.
Melting snow had affected the holiday lights' effectiveness, and that's when Nooner thought up Twist and Seal.
Nooner is president of the Frankfort-based company, 9370 W. Laraway Road, but he grew up in Lockport. All of his products keep water away from electrical cord connections of various types and sizes. That water might originate from rain, melting snow, sprinklers or hoses. The devices also keep the cord connections together.
Twist and Seal officially opened in the fall of 2012, and at the end of 2018, the company will have sold 5 million products. It is carried in more than 15,000 retailers in four countries, Nooner said.
"Safety and convenience — these products prevent electrical hazards, and they also are convenient because they keep the lights and electric on," Nooner said. "[The] independent lab testing and approval really gives our product a lot of credibility because these people know this works.”
