A 29-year-old Glenwood man has died and a child was ejected after a three-car collision Monday afternoon on northbound Interstate 57 in Monee.
Michael Rodriguez, 45, of Peotone, was driving a Cadillac Escalade about 3:40 p.m. Monday north on I-57 with a child as a passenger, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.
The child was not properly restrained, police said.
Traffic was moving slowly in the area near mile marker 336, according to the release. Rodriguez failed to reduce speed and rear-ended 29-year-old Thomas Stiso in a Ford vehicle. Police did not know the Ford’s model. The Ford then rear-ended a Volvo semi-trailer that a Hinsdale man was driving.
Stiso was pronounced dead on the scene about 7:15 p.m., according to a news release from the Will County Coroner’s office.
The child in Rodriguez’s car was ejected through the passenger-side window. Both Rodriguez and the child were transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Rodriguez was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash, failing to secure a child in proper restraints and driving with a revoked license.
Illinois State Police District 5 is investigating the crash. An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday revealed Stiso suffered multiple injuries because of the crash, a coroner’s office official said.
Funeral home selection was pending Tuesday. The final cause and manner of Stiso’s death will be determined after police, autopsy and toxicological reports are completed.
