New Lenox police arrested a 38-year-old New Lenox man Monday in connection with graffiti that appeared on the village’s historic Metra train station over the weekend.
Kevin B. Carter, of the 200 block of Locust Lane, was arrested and charged with criminal defacement of property in connection with the damage done to the Metra station and construction equipment at Lincoln Highway and Church Street, police said in a Facebook post Monday afternoon.
“Thank you to all that called and sent tips to us on our Facebook page with information,” police said.
Deputy Police Chief Louis Alessandrini said a number of commenters on social media pointed out the physical building at the station was under construction for the New Lenox Historical Society to preserve and relocate it. A CVS was planned to take its place.
The graffiti depicted words and images on the doors, windows, benches, brick walls and floor of the train station.
Carter was transferred to the Will County jail.
