Slammers accumulate 19 hits, roll to 11-4 win over Miners

The Joliet Slammers exploded for 19 hits Saturday night at Joliet Route 66 Stadium to beat the Southern Illinois Miners, 11-4, and even their weekend series at a game apiece.

The No. 2 and No. 3 hitters in manager Jeff Isom's lineup, Lee-Jun Kalawaia and Danny Zardon, both had four hits, and Cody Clark chipped in three. London Lindley and RJ Thompson added two hits apiece. Zardon and Justin Garcia drove in two runs. Travis Bolin and Clark hit back-to-back solo homers in the eighth inning.

Duke von Schamann picked up the victory, allowing six hits in seven innings.

On Friday night, after the Slammers scored four times in the seventh inning to go ahead, 4-3, the Miners scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth to win, 5-4. Dom Iero hit a two-run homer for Joliet, Clark added a solo shot, and Garcia had two hits.
