NuMark Credit Union raised more than $3,000 recently and sponsored 315 wreaths placed at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood to support the Wreaths Across America project.

Wreaths Across America project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring our nation’s heroes for their service.

NuMark’s volunteer board of directors are all veterans.

The credit union raised money through a combination of efforts. Staff paid to wear jeans on designated days. The credit union sold American flags during Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays. Credit union members made donations and NuMark matched certain contributions.

In total, more than 18,000 wreaths were placed at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Wally Chlipala, volunteer board director, and other board members participated in the wreath-laying ceremony Dec. 16.

For over 20 years, wreaths have honored veterans in each branch of the military in more than 1,100 participating locations in all 50 states and 24 national veteran cemeteries on foreign soil. Over 100,000 wreaths have been donated and more than 65,000 volunteers have participated in the project.
