Hammes Avenue should be fully open in August

Hammes Avenue in the Marycrest subdivision is expected to be fully open sometime in August.

Hammes this spring was converted to a one-way street to accommodate a water main project that is in its third year in Marycrest.

The city is moving mains originally built in the backyards of Marycrest homes out to the streets.

“The water mains in the backyards were very hard to maintain,” said Interim Utilities Director Alison Swisher.

The Hammes work should be done by August while work at other Marycrest locations will continue to October, Swisher said.

The Marycrest project will resume for its final year in 2019, when the city will relocate mains on Benedict, Francine, Madonna and Marmion avenues.
