The city of Joliet recently paid its first $500,000 to the Will County Board as part of an intergovernmental funding agreement for the new county courthouse that will total
$10 million by 2037.

There will be 20 total payments of $500,000 each, according to a news release. The next 19 payments will be made on or before June 21 for years 2019 through 2037, according to the release.

The courthouse construction began in December, and it is expected to be completed in late 2020, according to the release.

“It’s wonderful to see the county and the city of Joliet cooperating on this project, which will improve the quality of life and economic vibrancy for residents of Joliet and all of Will County,” Will County Board member Denise Winfrey said.
