“Excessive speed” likely contributed to the death of a 25-year-old Channahon man Sunday morning, Illinois State Police revealed late Monday.

Police responded about 2:10 a.m. Sunday for a reported crash at the southbound I-55 ramp onto Route 53 in Bolingbrook, according to a news release from state police. Brandon Brown, who the Will County Coroner’s Office identified as being from Channahon, reportedly drove his 2002 Ford Explorer down the ramp and lost control.

His vehicle left the roadway, struck a light pole and rolled over across the northbound lanes of Route 53. Brown later died.

Illinois State Police Lt. David Keltner said Brown was wearing a seatbelt, and excessive speed was the only known contributing factor to the crash as of late Monday.
