A Joliet man convicted of second-degree murder was arrested on charges of unlawfully using a weapon, possessing a stolen firearm and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
At 4:20 a.m. Saturday, Orsbey T. Larkin, 30, of the 100 block of South Des Plaines Street, Joliet, was arrested and charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use and possession of a weapon by a felon, no firearm owner’s identification card, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and possession of a stolen firearm.
Larkin was arrested at the intersection of Route 53 and Laraway Road. After his arrest, he was taken to the Will County jail on a $500,000 bond, of which 10 percent will be needed for bail.
Calls to interim Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner were not returned Tuesday.
Larkin has been on parole since Nov. 22, 2017. In 2011, he was sentenced to five years in prison for felon possession of a weapon and 12 years for second-degree murder. Larkin’s sentences were served concurrently.
Larkin shot and killed Corey Kelly, 29, in October 2011. He pleaded guilty to the charge of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon by felon.
He was investigated by police as a suspect in Kelly’s death after they learned he and Kelly were involved in a dispute over money owed for drugs.
During the summer of 2011, Larkin had survived a shooting that killed two of his friends.
