Joliet man dies after vehicle became submerged in New Lenox pond

A 49-year-old Joliet man died Monday night after he was pulled from a vehicle submerged in a New Lenox pond.

New Lenox firefighters responded about 8:50 p.m. Monday to 200 Veterans Parkway in New Lenox for a reported vehicle submerged in a pond, according to a news release from the New Lenox Fire Protection District.

When fire crews arrived, they found New Lenox police officers in the pond attempting to rescue a person from a submerged vehicle. A dive team later responded and was able to remove the victim, Andrew R. Jurvich.

Jurvich was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he later died. Four police officers were also treated for minor injuries, the news release said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Jurvich Tuesday, according to a news release from the Will County Coroner's Office.
