The snowstorm contributed to at least one crash Monday morning in Romeoville, which slowed traffic near the Interstate 55 interchange on Weber Road.
Romeoville Police Cmdr. John Ferdinardo said the crash occurred at 8:38 a.m., when a semitrailer tried to make a left turn off Weber Road onto southbound I-55.
Another vehicle traveling south on Weber didn’t stop for the traffic light, and the truck hit it into a traffic light pole. Ferdinardo said the driver of the other vehicle told police he couldn’t see the red light because the traffic light was covered by the snow.
No one was hurt in the crash, and both vehicles were able to drive away.
As of 11 a.m., first responders still were at the scene, as the traffic lights were flashing red. Ferdinardo said RPD crews still were waiting for Will County responders to fix the pole. Ferdinardo said there were other minor crashes throughout the village.
Illinois State Police District 5 in Joliet also said it was handling only a few minor incidents Monday after the snowfall.
