Minooka Community High School senior named Rotary Club 'Student of the Month' for November

Minooka Community High School senior Abbey Pursell, daughter of Tony and Lana Pursell of Channahon, was named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club “Student of the Month” for November.

Minooka Community High School senior Abbey Pursell, daughter of Tony and Lana Pursell of Channahon, was named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club “Student of the Month” for November.

In the classroom, Abbey maintains a 4.04 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), has been honored with academic excellence awards sophomore through senior year, and holds the position of community relations officer for the National Honors Society.

Outside the classroom, Abbey has been very active during her high school career in children’s theater, fall play, musicals, choir, jazz choir and madrigals. Abbey also participates in band, marching percussion, National Honors Society and speech team.

Away from school, Abbey gives back to the community by volunteering at her church and youth group, directing a teen and children’s choir, providing voice lessons, and helping with day break shelter.

After graduation in May, Abbey plans to continue her education at Joliet Junior College, studying early childhood education. Abbey then plans on transferring to Illinois State University, where she will continue studying education with a minor in music education.
