Chris Braggs, Joliet West High School Class of 1997, is a successful photographer and videographer who, in September 2016, founded The New Hue, a community program committed to changing the perception of men of color in Joliet.
The New Hue started primarily as a series of portraits on The New Hue website depicting positive photographs and stories of men of color from Joliet.
Bragg’s initiative has since evolved to include The New Hue Scholarship Fund in partnership with United in Excellence, an initiative born out of the Joliet Township High School Foundation.
The New Hue Scholarship seeks to support male students of color who have the desire to major in digital and media arts. The winner will receive $500 as well as ongoing support from the United in Excellence network of more than 50 UIE alumni, donors and community members.
These benefits include mentorship and networking opportunities, care packages, a trunk party, and ongoing support from United in Excellence. The New Hue Scholarship has raised about $1,000 this year.
Chris Braggs most recently produced www.chrisbraggs.com and his YouTube channel Signature Chris.
Chris Braggs is married to Jessica Braggs, Joliet Central Class of 2003, a sales manager for Towne Place Suites and Hampton Inn Joliet at Raymond Management Company Inc. They are the parents of two daughters, Brook and Brielle.
