The director of the Joliet American Legion Band was arrested on a charge of possessing child pornography, according to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.
At 11:12 a.m. Tuesday, Kevin W. Macha, 28, of the 700 block of Raub Street, Joliet, was taken to the Will County jail on a charge of child pornography possession.
An investigation into Macha began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported to the authorities that in June, an individual was sharing child pornography on his computer.
In August, sheriff’s deputies were notified of the tip and conducted an investigation that allegedly revealed Macha was using a social media platform to share child pornography.
A search warrant was executed at his home address, and Macha was brought in for questioning. Macha allegedly made incriminating statements during an interview, and he was arrested. Electronic devices also were seized, and they are being examined, the sheriff’s office said.
Macha also is a music teacher in Reed-Custer School District 255. He taught fifth-graders through high schoolers, the sheriff’s office said. Reed-Custer administrators are cooperating with the criminal investigation.
Macha was chosen as director of the Joliet American Legion Band last year, according to the band’s website. He joined the band in 2016, filling a vacancy in the bass clarinet section.
“His primary instrument is piano, but he is also a talented French horn player,” according to the website.
