When Joliet resident Caryn Diaz got the opportunity to see and meet Kenny G on Nov. 29 when he performed at the Rialto Square Theatre, she knew she had to paint him.
“For almost 40 years, I’ve been playing his music in my household,” Diaz said.
On top of her work at Taylor Street Realty, Diaz paints intricate portraits and various subjects in what she said is a pop art style.
She said her children got the tickets for her. From that point, she tried to paint the perfect portrait to give to him – something “worthy” of presenting, she said.
Diaz said she studied him and tried multiple times to get it right. She also listened to his music while she worked away at it.
“He’s just such a talented human being, and he’s kind and he’s sweet and he’s so accommodating to his fans,” Diaz said.
