A Joliet man tied a girl’s arms and legs together and then held a knife to her throat, according to court records.
On Oct. 25, Juan J. Ortiz, 22, of the 400 block of Landau Avenue detained a girl by tying up her arms and legs, according to a criminal complain, and then held a knife to her throat.
The complaint also alleges that Ortiz struck the minor’s face, before grabbing her neck and hair.
Joliet police arrested Ortiz on a warrant, and he was taken to the Will County jail about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. He was charged with aggravated unlawful restraint and domestic battery.
Ortiz appeared at the Will County Courthouse for a hearing on his bond. A judge ordered his bond to stand in the amount of $75,000.
Ortiz was convicted of domestic battery twice this year.
On June 25, he was charged with two counts of domestic battery. He pleaded guilty to one count Sept. 5, and another count was dropped. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and given a year of conditional discharge.
Ortiz was charged with three counts of domestic battery Aug. 17. He pleaded guilty Sept. 5, and two counts were dropped.
Ortiz also was convicted of residential burglary in 2016. He was sentenced to more than two years in prison.
He also was convicted of theft of between $500 and $10,000 in 2016.
