Nearly 1,200 people attended Edward Hospital’s newborn intensive care unit (NICU) Reunion on Oct. 28 at the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville.

Edward’s Level III NICU is equipped to treat the sickest and most fragile newborns of all gestational ages, including those with a variety of congenital and surgical conditions.

Edward's NICU is the largest in DuPage County and cares for about 500 babies a year and has cared for more than 7,000 since it opened in the 1990s, when it was known as a Special Care Nursery.

In addition, Edward and its NICU have cared for more than 2,000 sets of multiples in that time, including more than 1,930 sets of twins, 64 sets of triplets, four sets of quadruplets and one set of quintuplets.

The reunion was funded, in part, by a grant from the Edward Foundation NICU Reunion Fund, and gifts from DuPage Neonatology Associates and other community donors.
