A regional chapter of the American Public Works Association awarded Joliet Public Works Director James Trizna its Samuel A. Greeley Award.
The award was presented at a Jan. 9 awards ceremony for the APWA Southwest Branch of the Chicago Metro Chapter.
Joliet Civil Engineer Mark Sefcik also was recognized for his 10 years of service to APWA as awards chairman.
The Samuel A. Greeley Award is given in recognition of a public official who has improved the quality of life in a community through advancement in the public works profession, according to a news release.
Trizna has worked for Joliet for 32 years, starting as a civil engineer, and served as public works administrator before becoming public works director in 2006.
"I am grateful to the city council of Joliet and its residents who entrust me with the great responsibility of managing the Public Works Department and all of its duties for the last three decades," Trizna said in the statement.
Trizna has overseen infrastructure development for a number of public works projects during his career.
