Senior Services of Will County will host an educational presentation titled Senior Scams and Identity Theft at 2 p.m. Jan. 29 at The Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Road, Shorewood.
Guest presenter, Lynn Lionhood of Legal Shield will discuss how to identify current scams targeted at seniors.
Topics will include mail solicitation, phone solicitation, internet and email safety, Medicare scams and ID theft.
According to attorneygeneral.gov, telltale signs of a scam include: cash only, secret plans, "get rich quick" schemes, something for nothing, contests, pressure to act immediately, today only (if something is worthwhile today, it's likely to be available tomorrow, anything that appears to be "too good to be true" and exhortations that it's the "last chance."
Also beware of the use of leftover materials. Such materials may be defective or stolen.
