To the Editor:
On Jan. 20, the Joliet Black Police Association received the Dr. Isaac Singleton Award for Extraordinary Service from Rainbow Push Coalition Joliet Chapter.
The BPOA would like to thank the Rainbow Push Board Joliet Chapter members Bishop Craig Purchase and pastors Herbert Brooks, Warren Dorris and Lonnie Posley for honoring us with this award.
We know Dr. Singleton was a man of honor and fought for civil rights and injustices. Dr. Singleton marched with Dr. Martin Luther King and was a leader in our community.
On MLK weekend, we were truly blessed to be recognized. This award was presented with the help and support of Joliet NAACP President Mike Clark.
Rainbow Push Coalition Joliet Chapter also recognized Terry Morris of the Joliet City Council and NHBW. Will County Board Speaker Denise Winfrey spoke before the keynote address which was presented by Bishop Tavis L. Grant. His powerful address impacted all who attended the event at St. Paul Baptist Church.
We’d like to thank Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk and Councilwoman Bettye Gavin for supporting us.
