JOLIET – There aren’t many deals to claim free tickets for NASCAR events, but Chicagoland Speedway is hopeful that fans will participate in its promotion for a chance to attend the Camping World 400 on June 30 while not having to pay to do so.
The Speedway has posted a promotion on its website, www.chicagolandspeedway.com, that allows fans to select one of five drivers who they think will capture the championship of one of racing’s greatest spectacles, the Daytona 500, on Sunday afternoon.
A great group of top drivers from the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series are the five names that can be selected for the special promotion. They are Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano, who won last year’s Series championship. Busch (2015), Harvick (2014) and Keselowski (2012) also have won titles in the series.
Those making their selections must purchase a grandstand ticket for the Camping World 400 by 11 a.m. Sunday, the day of The Great American Race. Tickets must be paid in full since no payment plans are eligible. Participants who use the Chicagoland Speedway website must purchase their tickets by clicking on the driver’s link on the promotions page.
“We always love to make the media rounds this time of the year just to remind everyone that the NASCAR season is kicking off this weekend with the 61st running of the Daytona 500, The Great American Race,” Chicagoland Speedway President Scott Paddock said. “So we wanted to get that on everyone’s radar and make sure that they tune in for that.
“And we’ve got something that’s going on tied into that we’re really excited about, and that’s a special ticket offer where if you buy your tickets to our Camping World 400 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race on June 30 through 11 a.m. on Sunday, you can pick one of five drivers, and they’re big names. If that driver wins, then you get a refund and you’re coming to our race for free. So you’ve got a shot to go to our race for free, but you also kind of feel like you’re more engaged in the Daytona 500.”
Paddock already is looking forward to the Speedway’s biggest event, the NASCAR weekend that features the Camping World 225 in the Truck Series on June 28, the Camping World 300 in the XFINITY Series the next day and the Camping World 400 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series on June 30.
“Relative to the NASCAR weekend, we’re particularly excited this year because with the move back to summer, we really had to rebrand or reinvent the event weekend since we’re no longer part of that playoff,” Paddock said. “So we said that we’re close to the Fourth of July so we wanted to really connect to the patriotism of the Fourth of July holiday. But we’re thinking on another level with what we’re calling our NASCAR Summer Festival weekend. Anything you think of when you think of summertime, that’s what this weekend will be about.
“We’re going to have a huge carnival component to it with carnival rides. We just wrapped up a meeting with WGN radio, and we’re going to execute a mega barbecue competition, which will be called the Barbecue Smoke-down at Chicagoland Speedway. And there’s going to be a professional component with big-name barbecue celebrities, and there will also be a fan element to that. And we’re going to have a pit bike event, a motocross exhibition and music is a big part of it, and we’re going to announce our headline artist in a couple of weeks.”
