The Exchange Club of Joliet presented Joliet police officers James Kilgore and Robert Korczak with its 2018 Police Officer of the Year award.
The officers have been members of the department for nearly 13 years, according to a news release.
In 2018, they were partners assigned to the tactical unit. They were instrumental in the department’s success in seizing 139.11 grams of cocaine, 132.14 grams of cannabis, 17 firearms, $52,545 in proceeds of criminal activity and 42 warrant arrests.
Kilgore and Korczak developed informants and used social media to target and build cases against gang members throughout their investigations, which led to the seizing of contraband. They obtained and executed warrants in order to recover most of those drugs, guns and money.
