George Mueller, 88, of Glen Ellyn shared his story of surviving the Holocaust with a group of Bolingbrook eighth-graders last week.
Humphrey Middle School social studies teacher Patrick Keeley invited Mueller to give his firsthand account of history. Mueller said when he was liberated, he was about the same age as the Humphrey students. In a video posted on Valley View School District 365U’s YouTube channel, Mueller can be heard telling the story of the day he was liberated.
“After 13 days on the train, one morning, this woman yelled ‘We’re free! We’re free!’” he told the students. “I looked out, and, sure enough, there were the German guards being taken away by the Russians.”
