Joliet police will be on the lookout for texting while driving in April.
The Joliet Police Department announced Friday that it will conduct an enforcement campaign on distracted driving. April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Police issued a news release quoting National Traffic Safety Highway Administration statistics stating that:
• In 2015, crashes involving distracted drivers killed 3,477 people and injured 391,000.
• In 2015, distracted driving was a factor in 10 percent of fatal crashes,
15 percent of injury crashes; and 14 percent of all crashes reported to police
