A number of members braved a cold, windy, snowy evening to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Minooka Women's Club, which was held at the Minooka Branch ofthe Three Rivers Library.
Local historian Michele Houchen gave a talk and, along with slides and photo/scrapbooks, wove the club's history with that of Minooka's growth.
Franc Watson, founder of the club, also started a lending library and a scout troop. She had been educated at Northwestern in Chicago and attempted to bring some "big city" ways to her small town.
Houchen noted this women's club and other clubs, which have been organized through the years, have become the backbone of Minooka.
