Man ejected from car on I-55 in Joliet

A Berwyn man was airlifted in serious condition after a crash on Interstate 55 on Thursday in Joliet.

Illinois State police responded to the crash on I-55 northbound about one mile south of U.S. Route 30 at 5:33 p.m. on Thursday according to a news release.

The state police investigation found that Kanaga Sahadewan, 56 of Naperville, was driving in the center lane when Davonta Midcalf, 22, of Berwyn, attempted to change lanes and struck the passenger side of his vehicle, police said.

Midcalf lost control and overturned multiple times into the right ditch, according to police.

Midcalf was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the center lane of northbound I-55, police said. He was airlifted to an area hospital in serious condition.

Sahadewan was reportedly uninjured.

The crash is under investigation.
