A woman has been arrested and jailed for fabricating a story of a man choking and slapping her in the basement of a Shorewood home, police said.

About 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jalee C. Franklin, 26, of the 5800 block of St. Charles Road in Berkeley was arrested and booked into the Will County jail on a felony charge of disorderly conduct.

Franklin was indicted by a grand jury Feb. 6.

On June 10, 2018, Franklin allegedly contacted the Shorewood Police Department and claimed she had been choked and slapped by a man in the basement of a home in the 19000 block of Saddlebrook Drive in Shorewood.

The man was still in the basement with her at the time she reported the offense and she knew that “there was no reasonable ground for believing” the offense had been committed, according to the indictment.

On Feb. 8, Will County judge Art Smigielski signed a warrant for Franklin’s arrest. The warrant carried a $20,000 bond.

The man who Franklin accused of abusing her filed for a protective order against her on Aug. 20 in Kane County. The parties failed to appear in court by 11 a.m. on Dec. 20, according to Kane County court records. The case was dismissed.

On July 16, Franklin was charged with obstructing identification in Kane County.
