On April 11, the Will County Audubon Chapter will host "Optics Fair 2019," which will be presented by Steven K. Ledin
Ledin has been selling optical products professionally for 30 years and is currently the Director of Product Intelligence at OpticsPlanet.com, headquartered in Northbrook.. Eventually, most manufacturers’ products cross his desk for inspection or testing.
He has authored and photographed for numerous publications and has taught hundreds of product training sessions in classrooms and on film with subjects ranging from spotting scopes to night vision and thermal imaging.
Ledin has also enjoyed watching birds from Alaska to Africa and has been a Project FeederWatch participant since 2009. Steven is a navy veteran and lives in East Dundee, Illinois with his wife Shirley and their three spoiled rescue dogs.
In his presentation, Steven will touch on the basic subjects of:
• What the numbers mean regarding magnification and objective lens size
• How much magnification should you have for your activity
• How large should the binocular be
• Tips for proper use of binoculars and spotting scopes
• Electronic observation devices including digital and image-stabilized optics
• Using your phone to take pictures through your binocular or spotting scope
During the second half of Steven’s program, attendees will be able to try out various types of optics provided by Steve and members of the Will County Audubon Chapter and ask questions.
Social hour is 6 p.m. Questions and answers about birds is 6:15 p.m. A business meeting is at 6:30 p.m. The program is at 7 p.m.
The event will be held at Pilcher Park Nature Center, located at 2501 Highland Park Drive in Joliet.
