Vanisko: Herald-News to hold senior expo Thursday with 45-plus businesses

It’s Easter Sunday, so let me begin by wishing everyone a happy and blessed holiday.

After you have enjoyed Easter, hopefully you will make plans later this week to join us from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. Thursday for our Senior Expo at Joliet Catholic Academy.

We decided to host this Expo because we are always trying to find ways to engage our readers and give them the opportunity to benefit from their subscription.

If you are wondering if a “Senior Expo” event is something that’s for you, consider the following:

There is really no set age when you are considered a senior. You can be considered a senior at 55, 60, 62, 65 or 67.

As for our expo, we really don’t care how old you are, and we’re not going to be checking anyone’s ID at the door.

The event is free to attend, and everyone who shows up and signs in will be entered into a drawing for a 55-inch HDTV with an AccuVoice Sound Assist System. Our business partners at Toton’s TV will deliver the new TV to the winner and take out an old one if you want them to.

We have more than 45 varied businesses attending. There are quite a few from the health care category – Silver Cross Hospital among them. Medical staff will be doing free blood pressure testing.

A couple of our other business partners will be offering additional services such as vein screenings and select immunizations.

Beyond health care, there will be product demonstrations and information from dozens of local and regional businesses and nonprofit agencies.

You’ll receive special coupons, discounts and offers.

There will be professionals from real estate, senior living communities, finance, home improvement and others on-site to answer questions and discuss anything you are interested in.

A light breakfast of pastries, coffee, etc., will be provided. Attendees will also receive a bag with snacks and other items.

Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home is assisting us with the breakfast.

We are going to have our staff there, as well, if you want to swing by and discuss anything related to news, circulation or advertising.

So we hope you’ll take the time on Thursday to stop by.

I hope to see you there.
