A 17-year-old boy was arrested Thursday for allegedly firing a gun at a passing car in the 200 block of North Center Street in Joliet, police said.
At 4:40 p.m. Thursday, police officers responded to the 200 block of North Center Street after receiving a report of shots fired, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said in an email. Officers located and arrested a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly seen by witnesses firing a gun at a vehicle that was passing by in the area.
The police officers recovered shell casings at the scene, Botzum said. However, the police officers were not able to find the weapon that was used, he said. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident, and officers are still searching for the vehicle that was the alleged target.
At close to 5:15 p.m., the boy was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm. After his arrest, he was taken to the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
