Track & field notebook: Kreis leads state in 3,200-meter run

There's a new Illinois leader in the 3,200 run as Lincoln-Way Central's Jared Kreis went 9:02.47 to win Distance Night in Palatine by :0.07 seconds. Lincoln-Way East's Brett Gardner is fourth in the 1,600 with a 4:11.44 at Palatine and fourth in the 3,200 with a 9:07.76.

Plainfield North's Marcellus Moore leads in both the 100 (:10.36) and the 200 (:20.89). The defending Class 3A champ in each event owns a :0.35 lead in the 200 and ranks tenth in the nation in the 100 and the 200. But he's had some injury problems and may be out for awhile.

Lockport's Kyle Langellier ranks seventh in the 400 with a :49.44 at a triangular meet and Minooka's Jason Hoffman is eighth in the 800 with a 1:57.73.

Plainfield North's Kyle Burke went :14.56 in the 110 hurdles at the Edwardsville Invite to tie for eighth in the state and Lockport's Ray Holland ranks 11th in that event with a :14.63.

Romeoville's Amiri Buchanan ranks fourth in both the shot put (60 feet, eight inches) and discus (180-2) and Providence Catholic's Jake Renfro ranks ninth in the shot put (55-11).

In the triple jump, Lincoln-Way East's Fard Farrakhan is fourth (46-5.5), Romeoville's Enoch Antwi (45-11.5) is seventh and Plainfield South's Myles Lincoln (45-4) ranks tenth. And Minooka's DaVonte Welcher is tied for seventh in the long jump (22-9) after his first-place effort in last weekend's Downers Grove South Invite.

In the relays, Plainfield North ranks sixth in the 4 x 100 (:42.69) while Plainfield East ranks sixth in the 4 x 200 (1:30.39). Lockport is ninth in the 4 x 400 relay (3:27.32) and Plainfield North leads in the 4 x 800 relay (8:09.98), which is ninth-best from Edwardsville.

Top Girls Performances

Providence's Sam Spencer ranks second in the pole vault with a 12-9 effort being three inches shy of the state's best jump. Lincoln-Way East's Emma Barnard is tied for eighth in the pole vault (11-6) at Lincoln-Way Central.

Plainfield's Miranda Cadwell ranks in third place in the state in the discus (139-7) and is fourth in the shot put (44-5).

Lincoln-Way East's Taylor Wright has the fourth-best time in the 400 of :57.71 from the Glenbard West Invite and is ninth in the long jump (18-2) while Lincoln-Way East's Mariam Azeez ranks seventh in the long jump (18-7.75) at the Glenbard West meet. Bolingbrook's Kayla Walters is sixth in the 100 hurdles (:14.8) and tied for 11th in the long jump (18-1).

Lemont's Kaylie Politza is ranked fifth in the 800 (2:14.51) at Palatine while Lincoln-Way East's Katie Sciarini ranks tenth in the 300 hurdles (:45.77) at Lincoln-Way Central.
