Train passengers wait to for a Metra train to pull into the Joliet Station Wednesday, Oct. 14, in downtown Joliet.

A Metra Rock Island line train struck a pedestrian Wednesday morning in New Lenox, according to the commuter rail.

Metra was alerted to the incident about 8:30 a.m., spokeswoman Meg Reile said. The train headed to Chicago from Joliet stopped about 1 mile east of the New Lenox Metra stop on Church Street.

Reile said there were 50 passengers on board at the time of the incident. New Lenox police were first to arrive on the scene.

Metra said in a tweet about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday that train No. 506 was stopped near New Lenox because of police activity. A tweet sent about 9:30 a.m. said the train had hit a pedestrian.

Calls to the New Lenox Police Department were not returned.
