A 21-year-old man tried to evade officers in a stolen car, ended up in a swampy ditch and ran to Mistwood Golf Club where he was apprehended, police said.
About 5:20 a.m. Wednesday,
officers went to the 3400 block of Indian Head Lane after receiving a report of a stolen Ram pickup truck that was later located by the victim with the keys missing, Joliet police said.
While officers were in the area, they were notified that another stolen car was located by the victim as well, police said.
The victim found his missing Hyundai Genesis while driving his Ford Focus. He also found a firearm inside the car that was turned over to the law, police said.
When the victim drove the Genesis back to his residence while leaving his Ford Focus running and unoccupied, Jacob G. Delgado entered the vehicle and drove off, police said.
Officers were able to locate the stolen Ford Focus with Delgado behind the wheel in the 3400 block of Indian Head Lane, police said.
The officers tried to pull Delgado over, but he took off at a high rate of speed in an apparent attempt to elude the officers, police said.
Delgado lost control of the vehicle at Old Renwick Trail and Renwick Road and ended up in a swampy ditch, police said.
Delgado ran to Mistwood Golf Club, where he was later apprehended, police said.
Delgado was charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
