The Valley View School District 365U Board will be presented with a proposed timeline for its search for a new superintendent at a Monday regular meeting.
Executive search firm BWP and Associates, based in Libertyville, will present the board with the proposed timeline to recruit a new superintendent.
District 365U Superintendent James Mitchem will be retiring June 30, 2020. The firm also will inform the board of what the members can expect during the process of identifying and then ultimately hiring Mitchem’s successor.
Ahead of the April municipal elections, candidates for the board said that among their biggest priorities for their upcoming term would be performing thorough search for Mitchem’s replacement. All the candidates praised Mitchem’s leadership during the past eight years.
Mitchem became superintendent of District 365U on July 1, 2011. Before that, he was the principal at both Bolingbrook High School and Romeoville, an assistant principal, a dean, coach and high school physical education teacher in the district, where he first started working in 1980.
He also served for three years as the director of athletic advising at his alma mater DePaul University in the 1990s. While an undergraduate at DePaul, he played for the men’s basketball team, which reached the Final Four in 1979.
The board’s meeting Monday will take place at John J. Lukancic Middle School, located at 725 W. Normantown Road in Romeoville. Public session will begin at 7 p.m.
